The FarnhamFestival 2009 Programme

Elizabeth Winters

During the opening concert of the 2009 festival, the combined secondary schools of Weydon, The Wavell and Heath End will perform a new work by Elizabeth Winters.  The work is entitled ‘Pilgrims Tales’ about the famous "Pilgrims Way", which passes through the town.

Born in 1979, Elizabeth studied viola and piano at the Royal College of Music Junior Department and subsequently continued her viola studies on the undergraduate course.  In 2006 she gained her MMus in Composition with Distinction from Goldsmiths College, London.

Elizabeth is currently studying composition with Judith Bingham and is a Society for the Promotion of New Music (spnm) short-listed composer for 2006-2009 and is the winner of the 2008 Liverpool Capital of Culture New Composer Competition.  She has written a work for the combined forces of Le Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, and Ensemble 10/10 for the Cornerstone Festival in November 2008.

Other future projects include a work for the flautist Carla Rees and guitarist David Black.  For more information visit www.elizabethwinters.com.
